In our series 'Getting Moderately Deep With...' we ask a food vendor tough questions. Well, sort-of tough. This month, we meet Liu He, who’s selling jianbing and soft drinks outside the American Embassy. 


How are you feeling today?

Great!


What’s the first thing you thought when you woke up this morning?

I want to get to work as soon as possible.


What is your idea of the perfect day?

Shopping and hanging out with my wife.


Who is your best customer?

The Chinese people applying for visas at the American Embassy across the street.


Who is your worst customer?

I don’t think there is such a thing. The customer is god.


Which living person do you most admire?

My father.


When were you the happiest?

When I was a little boy.


Which talent would you most like to have?

I want to be more knowledgeable.


What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Serving in the army.


If you could change one thing about your life, what would it be?

I wish I didn’t have to get up so early.


What is your most treasured possession?

My wife.


What trait do you most value in a person?

Trustworthiness. I like people who keep their promises.


What is it that you most dislike?

Summer.


What always makes you laugh?

Getting paid.


What’s the most surprising thing that’s happened to you?

Getting married.


Which era of Beijing's history would you most like to have lived in?

Does it have to be Beijing’s? I’m not from here. 


Oh, cool. Where are you from? 

Shanxi. 


Alright, yeah – if you could live anywhere and during any era of history...

Shanxi, the Warring States period.


Who is your hero?

[Hong Kong actor] Andy Lau.
